Prof. John Windsor
BSc, MBChB, Dip Obst, MD, FRACS, FACS
Chairman
John is well known and well respected in international surgical circles, which is of great significance to Go Virtual Medical in developing the necessary academic networks and partnerships. John’s main role with GVM is that of product champion, but he is also ultimately in charge of quality control and the orchestration of validation studies.
Background
John completed a double major in Physiology and Biochemistry before enrolling in the School of Medicine at the University of Otago. After 2 years of full time research towards his doctorate John went to Edinburgh to sub-specialize in hepatobiliary, pancreatic and gastro-oesophageal surgery under the tutelage of Sir David Carter. He was awarded a chair in Surgery in 2003, and became Head of Surgery at the University of Auckland in 2004. John developed the first hepatopancreaticobiliary / upper GI Unit in New Zealand. His interests in teaching laparoscopic surgery led to the development of the Advanced Skills Training Centre. A new Postgraduate Training Centre was opened in 2004 with the goal of combining skills training with appropriate technology in a world class facility. John is concerned to ensure that simulation technology is introduced with appropriate curriculum design, metrics and validation studies. |
