Digital block

Digital block is a very useful and simple procedure to acquire for the management of minor digital injuries or minor digital surgery.

Learn how to perform a digital nerve block by seamlessly moving between the learning media; text, video, anatomy and simulator. In the simulator, learn how to perform digital nerve blockade in learn mode or test yourself in test mode by choosing medical tools with your computer mice and performing the procedure in a virtual environment. In test mode you may also choose multi-choice questions to test your understanding. Examine your performance in either mode in your personalized logbook and print this record for your own documentation.

Read a concise step-by-step description of how to perform a ring block, steps are based upon evidence-based medicine and have hyperlinks to the relevant abstracts in Pubmed. Watch the procedure performed by an expert and observe the insertion angle of the anesthetic needle into the finger. Review the peripheral nerve anatomy of the distal forearm and hand in relation to the carpal, metacarpal and phalangeal bones, to see the median nerve and superficial branch of the ulna nerve divide into common palmar digital nerves and terminal digital nerves.

Practice this helpful technique in the simulator with a close up cross-sectional view of a digit. Place the needle tip on the dorsum surface at the base of the digit, insert the needle perpendicularly into the digit and inject the correct amount of anesthesia to successfully numb the digit on each side and across the superficial dorsal area.

The digital block module is a “must-have” module for clinicians when treating minor digital injuries and minor digital surgery in accident and emergency and primary care settings.
